Featuring Liebeslieder waltzes by Johannes Brahms Marjorie Skreen and Duane Hulbert, piano duet, Saturday, May 4 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, May 5 at 3 PM at Christ Episcopal Church, 310 N K St, Tacoma, WA.
Dear Friends of Northwest Repertory Singers,
Get ready to enjoy a captivating program of song as NWRS presents, “To Life! To Love!” on May 4 at 7:30 PM and May 5 at 3 PM at Christ Episcopal Church.
Scored for singers and two pianists, we’re delighted to present the choral movements of this landmark work with collaborative pianists Marjorie Skreen and Duane Hulbert. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself tapping your feet to this clever and lively music! Our repertoire also includes modern gems such as Elaine Hagenberg’s “Measure Me, Sky,” a piece that urges the exploration of life’s boundless potential, and Cecilia McDowall’s “Love’s Philosophy,” which intricately weaves together harmonies reflecting the richness of love’s emotions.
We’ll journey through time with Emma Lou Diemer’s settings of Shakespeare poems in Three Madrigals and explore powerful themes conveyed in René Clausen’s “Set Me as a Seal” and Undine Smith Moore’s “I Would Be True.”
The concert concludes with the infectious energy of Moses Hogan’s “This Little Light of Mine” and the poignant beauty of Kim André Arnesen’s “My Flame the Song,” each offering a unique perspective on the meaning of life and love.
Please join us on May 4 and May 5 as we share a concert filled with a wide range of emotion and memorable melodies. Purchase your tickets here. We look forward to welcoming you “To Life! To Love!”

This season brings some notable changes to the size and composition of the choir, plus the addition of two social events that are new to NWRS:
This theme for this concert is “Sing Noel“, and we’re featuring a number of pieces that use familiar holiday themes in unfamiliar settings, plus a piece performed by Artistic Director Kyle Haugen on the pipe organ, and some caroling with audience participation. Tickets are available!
With many returning veterans of NWRS, plus new members who auditioned in, we are excited to bring you our latest season of exceptional musical performances, and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Every Monday night, Mason Methodist Church in Proctor echoes with the voices of the Northwest Repertory Singers, Tacoma’s premier choral ensemble. Standing before them and conducting expressively is artistic director Dr. Paul Schultz, who has been doing so since he founded the group 17 years ago. On June 9, Schultz will conduct his final concert with the ensemble, which will then be passed into the hands of current assistant director Kyle Haugen. In reflecting on his lifelong career as a choral conductor and teacher, Schultz emphasized the powerful ability of choral music to bring people together — both the singers and the audiences they reach, and how it positively impacts the community.
